La Fonda HotelSanta Fe, New Mexico |
When Santa Fe was founded in 1610, the town already had an inn or fonda to
accommodate travelers. More than two hundred years later, La Fonda - which was literally
at the end of the trail - welcomed the first successful trading expeditions that created
the Santa Fe Trail. Located on the southeast corner of the Plaza, the current structure
was built in 1923 on the site of previous inns. It is known for its award-winning Spanish
pueblo style architecture and is a vibrant, historic landmark filled with unique paintings
and colorful, hand-painted and hand carved wooden furniture, beams, corbels and much more. |
